How data is handled

Last updated September 12, 2026

Data Tether Journal collects

Tether Journal collects account information needed to sign in, including your name, email address, and account identifier. Tether Journal also stores the journal content you create, including entry text, transcripts, audio, photos, videos, captions, timestamps, sharing relationships, private entry conversations, streak data, notification device tokens, and related sync metadata.

How data is used

Data is used to provide private journaling, local-first sync, media storage, approved sharing, notifications, account support, safety handling, and diagnostics.

On-device transcription

Voice transcription runs on your device using Apple Speech or WhisperKit. Audio is not uploaded to a transcription service for processing.

Service providers

Tether Journal uses Clerk for authentication, Convex for app data and sync, Cloudflare R2 for media storage, and Sentry for crash and diagnostic reporting. These providers are used only to operate, protect, and improve Tether Journal.

Diagnostics

Crash and diagnostic reports may include technical identifiers, counts, byte sizes, and app state names. Tether Journal is configured not to send journal text, transcripts, captions, photos, videos, screenshots, view hierarchy data, email addresses, or names to Sentry.

Tracking and advertising

Tether Journal does not sell personal data, does not use third-party advertising, and does not track you across other companies' apps or websites.

Retention

Tether Journal keeps account and journal data while your account is active so the app can sync and restore your entries. If you delete your account, Tether Journal deletes your account data and associated journal content unless a legal requirement requires limited retention.

Private sharing rules

Tether Journal sharing is private and approval-gated. A person must approve a follow request before their shared journal entries are visible, and sharing is view-only.

Do not share content that is abusive, harassing, hateful, sexually exploitative, threatening, illegal, or otherwise unsafe. Tether Journal may remove content or restrict accounts that violate these terms.

If you see offensive content or abusive behavior, report it from inside the app when available or email tetherjournalsupport@gmail.com. Reports are reviewed by the Tether Journal team. You can also block people in the app when block controls are available.

Delete your account

You can delete your Tether Journal account in the app from Settings -> Account -> Delete Account.

Account deletion permanently removes your Tether Journal account record, journal entries, media, transcripts, profile data, sharing relationships, conversations, streak data, push notification records, and local files from the device where deletion is performed. Shared journal content is no longer visible to followers after deletion.

If you need help with account deletion, email tetherjournalsupport@gmail.com.
